" Lace monitor alert"
I wasn't really intending to start blogging the wildlife until I had the "feel" of the place but this morning there was a shout, loads of barking from the dog and squawking from the birds, I ran to the garden and found this 6ft Lace monitor(called locally goanna) being held at bay up a small Euc tree! I got very close and so did Mike and managed to get these close up shots without realising that if either of us had been bitten by this carrion eating carnivore then the chances of avoiding infection and almost certain serious risk of death were very slight,in addition to which we were told that we had been underneath it whilst it was being held at bay it would have urinated on us and if encountered in open ground the best option is to lie flat on the ground because by remaining standing the monitor would mistake you for a tree and clamber up before concluding that you're not and then you would probably be bitten and peed on at the same time!
